At Home in LA

Say hi to July: the sun is hot, summer celebrations are reaching their height, and vacation season is in full swing. The best of summer in Los Angeles is upon us, with concerts galore, freedom to travel, and more than enough excuses to celebrate.

In this issue of At Home in LA, we’re kicking off July with sparks flying – from the fireworks lighting up our California skies to the stars shining over Malibu nights.

To start off the month, our neighbors in Canada celebrate their Independence Day on the first of July. Just a few days later, we get to ring in the Fourth of July right here in California, complete with favorite nostalgic Americana and the joy of a sweet, celebratory summer.

For our own Andrew Rhoda, a proud Canadian-turned-American, July is a special month of celebrations. Originally from Vancouver, Andrew found his new home in Los Angeles and officially gained citizenship back in 2018. With Canada Day and the Fourth hitting back-to-back, it’s the perfect time for our team to cherish the best of both worlds. eh!?

This month, the iconic Hollywood Bowl is back to life with stars like Christina Aguilera, Kamasi Washington, and Earl Sweatshirt hitting the art deco stage in the hills. A piece of cultural and architectural history, the Bowl represents all that we love about LA music and summer nightlife.

Nearby, Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery is back screening movies under the stars (yes, wine and beer are permitted!). Kicking off the fourth with a screening of Dirty Dancing and a sparkling fireworks finale, there couldn’t be a more perfect start to a month of celebrations. At the end of July, stick around for a Pulp Fiction screening to round out the month with a classic.

The heat of July draws us to the refreshing beaches of Malibu and Laguna – the perfect place to cool off and unwind surrounded by SoCal’s natural beauty. Excursions with Malibu Wine Hikes take us through vineyards with cliffside views, complete with sips to greet hikers at the bottom.

The homes along the coast are just as dreamy. Up in Malibu, the spectacular Casa di Pietra boasts a 2,500 square foot rooftop terrace to overlook the sea and the property’s resort-style backyard. With a thoughtful stone exterior by architect Doug Burdge, this beachfront villa is a coastal dream perfect for everything from a starlit cocktail party to an afternoon float in the pool.

Just over a mile up the coast, you’ll find another Malibu gem. A super private Cape Cod style retreat, this 1.72-acre property features a sun-drenched main house, quaint guest house, and rights to the secluded beach cove just below. Complete with a wraparound oceanfront deck on the second level and an oceanview pool, there’s no escaping the oasis of the Malibu coast.
